Mel Cohen, Ph.D., MBA, CCC-SLP

Mel. Cohen is the President of Healthcare Management Workshops, an in-service training and virtual consulting firm whose clients include healthcare organizations nationwide.  Mel specializes in budgeting, cost accounting, financial analysis and change management for his healthcare clients' non-financial managers.He is on the faculty of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, writing and presenting seminars for its members as well as developing self-study courses in hard copy and web based formats.

Dr. Cohen is a popular speaker, trainer, and health care consultant.  He is on the faculty of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Healthcare Management Workshops, and Rehabilitation Seminars, nationwide providers of continuing education for healthcare supervisors, managers, and rehabilitation therapists.  In addition to his public and in-house presentations on the topics of budgeting and finance for non-financial managers, he has presented a series of seminars across the country entitled, “Managing Your Department and Career Under Managed Care.”

Mel Cohen's healthcare career spans more than twenty-five years as an associate professor and clinical department director at Loma Linda University and Medical Center, and financial manager at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.His credentials include a Ph.D. in Speech Pathology and Audiology, a B.B.A. in Accounting and an M.B.A. in Finance.  He has taught in the Loma Linda University School of Business and was also Associate Professor of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in the School of Allied Health Professions.

Mel Cohen was previously the Financial Manager of Rehabilitation and Sub-Acute Care Services at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.  For 10 years he held financial management positions in the Patient Care Services and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation departments at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  For the previous 15 years, Dr. Cohen served as Director of the Department of Speech and Language Development at Loma Linda University and Medical Center.
